Cayenta's approach to Total Solutions has been the driving force in creating solutions for municipality and utility customers. The following customer case studies describe the challenges Cayenta and their customers faced, and outline the solutions which increased business success and efficiency.

Energy America

The Challenge
Time was of the essence for Energy America, a Stamford, CT based energy services provider. Recent deregulation mandates required that billing for services could no longer be consolidated, but had to be itemized. Energy America did not have a system in place to handle these billing requirements and yet there was only a window of two months to have a system in place, or risk losing market share.

Cayenta's Solution:
Energy America chose Soliance, a San Diego, CA vendor of information solutions for the energy industry, to create an Internet-based virtual utility information system with enrollment, customer-billing operations, bill creation, and support. Soliance in turn chose Cayenta's Utility Management System (UMS) as the core of its solution. UMS was customized to accommodate Energy America's specific geographical and commodity-pricing needs for each state in which it sells energy. Soliance then established a hosting site to handle multiple tasks using the Internet as a resource to link all of the existing parties into a seamless system.

Benefits
The solution was implemented on time thus allowing Energy America to keep precious market share. In addition, they were able to receive and enroll customers in four to six weeks and most consumers did not notice a difference, as their bills were made to look almost identical to the local utility's.

Success Story - Centrica

Client Profile
In North America Centrica is the market leader in the unregulated sector of energy supply with more than a million customers through their subsidiary in Canada, Direct Energy, and Energy America, in the USA.

The Situation
Energy America chose Soliance, to create a comprehensive utility information system. Soliance in turn chose Cayenta Utilities as the core of its solution.

The Challenge
The Soliance Network Operation Center in San Diego, incurred tremendous hosting costs. In addition, high-salaried resources necessary to support the hosted application and perform operational analysis made the application expensive to run.

The Cayenta Role
Cayenta Managed Solutions hosted the application for Centrica through the Sprint Data Center, and using a team of experienced and trained application experts, performed comprehensive operational analysis and took control of daily operations, eliminating the need for expensive resources.

Project Achievements:
As a result of Cayenta's involvement, Centrica:
  • has significantly reduced operational and resource costs
  • has increased revenue based on Cayenta's business process analysis and recommendations
  • has successfully turned over daily operational processing to Cayenta
  • has experienced consistently successful bill processing and printing
Result
Cayenta Managed Solutions (CMS) has been able to meet the challenge of hosting a utility client with less than 100,000 accounts. CMS has now streamlined the necessary processes and is able to provide a profitable hosted model to smaller utilities, allowing them to remain competitive in today's markets.

"Not only has Cayenta been able to reduce our billing error rate, they have consistently met or exceeded our contracted SLA requirement of 99% system uptime."
